PreK with Li’l Bit {Week 2}

Li’l Bit, age 4 1/2, just finished up Week 2 with God’s Little Explorers. She was happy to work on a letter that she knows very well, so we worked on the different ways the Letter G can look. So often, even in children’s books the Letter G looks very different. We read a LOT of books this week, some suggested in GLE and some that we have and complimented our study of gardens and growing and the Letter G. Here’s a peak at the ones we read:

Firs,t we made a Craft for our Alphabet Page. I’m all about taking an idea and tweaking as needed to use what we have and/or what I know our Li’l Bit will enjoy! I know she LOVES using my old scrapbook templates for tracing and cutting, so I pulled out the flower one and away she went! I forgot to take a finished photo, but you can see she was working on glueing down all of her flower parts to make a “garden” on her Letter G page!

She also checked on her growing plant from the county fair every.single.day. Thankfully, no more mishaps like the one with Li’l Miss dropping hers on the floor, since Li’l Bit usually checked on Li’l Bro’s each day too! We talked a lot about how g can be used with other letters to make different sounds like gr for GROW!

She is beginning to read, so I made up a little activity for her to work with this week. She LOVED it. I have this resource available for FREE right now if you’d like to grab it {here}. She can say cat, bed and dog by sounding them out! So smart!!!

 I’ve been making a pattern block pattern on our Morning Board every Monday. I decided it would be good to tie it into our Letter of the week, so I made a flower! She has her  own blocks and was very proud on Tuesday to show me her flower. I don’t tell her to do this; it is very child-led and she can make it or make one of her own, which she did later in the week.

While on the topic of math, Li’l Bit LOVES to add. I can’t believe how quickly she is catching on but she is starting to memorize basic equations like 4 + 3 = 7, so I give her plenty of opportunities to practice! On this day, she was using little cubes (another gift from a retiring teacher! LOVE!) that Li’l Miss and Li’l Bro were using to work on multiplication after a lesson with Mommy using them. Li’l Bit wanted her own “math lesson” so we used them to work on adding! I showed her how to count out the number of cubes to the numbers on her dice and then add them all together and recount! She aced this!!!

We read the Read and Learn Bible pages on the Garden this week along with the Days of Creation. Her (and my) favorite activity all week was definitely the Creation Book she made! Like I said earlier, we improvised slightly from Stacie’s suggestion on using contact paper because a). we didn’t have any 🙂 and b). we had the little books I found in the dollar aisle at TarJay … and I was looking for an excuse to use one!

This turned out so special, and I can see it going into her keepsake box one day when she no longer reads it. For now, she wants to read it at least 10 times a day and she can almost tell the 7 Days of Creation by heart now! She is so proud of the work she did to make this special book, and she loves to share it with others. Love it!

Here is a collage of her finished book! I have to add she said without any prompting: “Mommy, I want to color a rainbow on the cover because God gives us rainbows!” YES HE DOES!!!

Since we aren’t going to Bible study on Fridays this year, we have more time on Fridays to sit and soak. I know we’ll miss Bible study and hopefully this is just a season, but since we have this extra time we are using it and my *plan* is to be sure and do a purposeful art project each Friday. Our Li’l Bro had gotten a bit behind on a couple of things, so I did let him opt out as he is always drawing and doodling and creating .. the girls though loved this simple project from Renne’s Art Task Cards. I chose the “What Can You Do with a Dot?” project to go right along with our study of God’s creation and talking about the earth and its roundness!
