What to Do on A{nother} Rainy Day?

A). I could cry. Literally a river. As I watch our garden inundated yet again with torrential downpours. Just for reference: here’s is our otherwise lovely creek. Except right now it is swollen and way outside its banks. Bummer!

IMG_2398C). Or I could attempt to clean up this pile that mocks me every single time I enter our library.

IMG_1935D). Or I could get some long overdue things printed like my new Alphabet Page Protector Printable Set and my fantastic new TpT and Blogging Planning Binder and actually display these Number Posters that I created awhile ago and sell in my TpT store.

Let’s see. How did I do? Continue reading

Reaping What You Sow

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Galatians 6:7-10

Have you ever been told possibly by a parent, “You reap what you sow.” I know I have more than once, and I’ve said it to our own children.

Our life lessons learned through our Garden Experiment have already begun. The weeds are having a party in our gardens, and we are determined to eradicate them naturally. The blisters between my thumb and forefinger and on the palms of my hand are a reminder to me of the hard work required to reap a bountiful harvest hopefully in due time. I don’t like wearing gloves. I know, it would help with the blisters, but like holding a good book in my hands, I also like to feel the hoe as I work.

The following pictures were taken yesterday of our children’s garden plots from oldest to youngest. We had a torrential downpour the day after we planted this garden, much of which was seeds, so some of the children lost precious seeds down the hillside. But not to despair, some have jumped at the opportunity to plant more seeds, and all but one have worked hard at eradicating those weeds.

For the oldest, he does have some weeds but he has parsley and dill coming up through them, so he is tending them carefully as he strives to not pull out the good stuff while keeping the bad stuff from taking root.

Oh, the life lessons! Have you wondered what your heart might look like if you think of it as a flower garden? Would it be full of precious and beautiful blooms, or would it be full of pesky weeds that seem to have no real function other than choking out the precious flowers? Continue reading

10 Posts in 10 Days: How Does Your Garden Grow?

When we bought this place last Spring, we were working day and night to renovate the kids’ bedrooms, the mudroom, finish out the totally unfinished basement, and make a library out of a really lackluster room at the end of our long ranch house. We longed for the day we could really use the garden plots that were already here and had been used for many years by the previous owners.

Well, Spring has sprung and the gardens are planted!

10 Posts in 10 Days: 5 + 2 + 2 + 4 = 10

Right?

Actually, no, it doesn’t.

Since early March, we have added 13 new chicks and young hens to our flock. Our children are learning about the stages of life for a chicken in the real world. I hope to one day hatch chicks here on our little farm. Maybe next year when these chicks are one-year-old layers.

IMG_8929Sadly, we have lost three of our new chicks *apparently.* Two are definitely not coming back.

The third one … she was missing last night when we had to close up the henhouse. We don’t know what type of hen she is/was, but she is/was totally white and the other hens were really mean to her, which could be why she is gone. They never accepted her, which made us all sad and little mad too. Continue reading

On Our Table

I have so many photos that I haven’t posted, so I was thinking of a photo dump. Then I thought it would be more fun to have a theme for the photo dump, so here are some views of our tables taken since January up until this past week!
