Gulf Shores Family Beach Trip: October 7, 2014

Tuesday was the warmest day yet with highs in the mid-80s by the afternoon. We had found our groove with toting items to the beach and everyone by now knew their favorite beachside activities. It took us all of about 1 minute to set up our spot and for everyone to get busy or get chillaxin, whichever the case may be!

This most unusual cloud formed right over us and we wondered if it might storm, but as quickly as it popped up it was gone onto shore and we never saw any clouds but white fluffy ones occasionally the rest of the day.

Is there anything better than sand between your toes at the water’s edge? Well there is, standing here enjoying the moment while watching my children playing joyfully and carefree!

Our oldest son Curly loves to fish and my Dad, his Papa, has had this reel seen here for about 50 years. He gifted it to Curly awhile back and he loves to try it out with different rods. It needed a replacement part and we were thrilled to find just what was needed on ebay. The reel works just like new!

I took this photo as I walked down to take some of Curly fishing along the shore. He got a few bites but they all got away as the waves were a bit more rough on this day, which was great for wave riding. The beach here is just spectacular because of the lack of high rises, which aren’t allowed in the state park.

The Prez and I enjoyed immensely the time to sit and soak for short bursts of time anyway. We also enjoyed time spent with smaller groups of our children here and there and playing with them in the surf and sand. We did miss getting to take a walk along the beach together sans kids, but maybe next time …

Here are a few more photos from our day at the beach …

In the later afternoon since it had warmed up considerably, we decided to check out the campground’s pool and splash pad. It is really great, excepting the fact the water isn’t heated. It was a balmy 75 degrees, so only the bravest in our party entered the pool—the girls, Li’l Bro and Mo! In warmer conditions (the previous weekend’s 40-degree temps had really cooled the pool water temp down), this would be a spot we’d spend more time at for sure. Nonetheless, it was a nice change of pace and we all enjoyed the popsicles the Prez bought us at the snack shop next door.

We headed back to our campsite by 4 p.m., so we could all take real showers at the bathhouse and spruce up for our first family photos in quite a long while. I took individual photos of the children too, and we took some Mommy and children and Daddy and children shots as well as a few family and sibling shots. I don’t pretend to be a photographer, but I have fun playing with settings and the sun was nearly setting which made for some good lighting. Some of these have been edited, but most are SOOC. (The collage is a lower resolution, so some look grainy but the originals aren’t!). Some of these will definitely be added to our beach family pics through the years collection.
